Architect Rupa D’souza is a freelance
Architect , graduated from the University of Mumbai in 1997-98 . She has 18
years of profound experience in Architecture and its allied fields. She is currently perusing a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Town Planning.
She is also a
Columnist and strives to bring across current and related issues w.r.t. planning and Infrastructure in sync
with the times thro’ mass media ; affecting the common man in all spheres of
life.
Born in
Rajasthan , educated in Mumbai, she hails from a Conservative Marwari family. Her
husband is also an Architect , Social , RTI
and a Human Rights Activist .
She has
successfully completed over 4 crore sq.ft of projects with world renowned Architect Hafeez
Contractor in the capacity of Senior Associate for 15 years . Projects ranging
from Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Recreational, I T parks etc , to
name a few. She has worked with one of the the biggest Construction Giants like
Hiranandanis , Lokhandwalas , Spenta, Birlas and IT giants like the Infosys , DLF etc.
She has handled
ASIA’s biggest inhouse hostel of approximately 7800 rooms at Mysore . SDB4 a
Landmark Building at Mysore was awarded , for the most amazing glass structure
in 2006 by Saint Gobain and was inaugurated by Hon.P.C.Chidambaram ( Finance
Minister ) In 2010. Hon. Shrimati Sonia Gandhi ( President – UPA) , personally congratulated
her when she was lauded for her work by Mr. M.D.Pai (CFO-HRD-Infosys) , at
Infosys Campus. She was always desirous that her buildings and surroundings be eco friendly , further to designing Platinum rated buildings and has
thus proven her expertise to conserve nature and mother earth from degradation.
She has been
involved in the minutest micro detailing
of each building handled .She endeavors to make a difference in society through
macro level research planning which prodded her to pursue Urban Planning in her
quest to assist in strategic and policy related
guidelines for a constructive urban governance.
Her interests lie in research on issues
related to parking and reasons of its shortage; Housing for the urban poor like
the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and LIG (Low Income Group) are areas that
she is currently working on at a strategic level . Owing to unaddressed issues in their initial stages , the problems over time mushroomed into slums : an
inseparable part of the urban fabric.
She has a seven
year old son . Her Husband is in the
process of customizing a home for “ONLY THE LONELY : ELDERLY” at Karjat christened “HELP ALL” in memory of his mother
Late.Helen D’souza who succumbed to cancer with paralysis and father Paul D’souza.
She is an integral part of this dream project
and endeavors to assist society thro’ this cause of concern towards the elderly.
